Roy Lichtenstein

Roy Lichtenstein (1923 - 1997) was an American pop artists, who became a leading figure in the new art movement. HIs work defined the premise of pop art through parody. Inspired by the comic strip, Lichtenstein produced precise compostitions that documented whilw they parodied, often in a tongue-in-cheek manner. His work was influenced by popular advertising and the comic book style. He described pop art as "not 'American' painting but actually industrial painting".

I chose to look at Roy Lichenstein because during a crit I was told fine liner would not show up well when blown up to A2 therefore I was advised to use a thicker pen. At the time I did not own many thick pens therefore I decided to look at ways I could use my fine liners differently, which led me to think of comic books. This then led me to look back at pop art in particular Roy Lichenstein because I like the way his uses lines and changes the thickness - I also admire the way he uses bold colours which is something I need to try more of myself.

Tom Jung

Tom Jung is an American advertising art director, graphic designer and illustrator best known for his movie poster art, and a motion picture storyboard artist. Born in Boston, his career began in New York where he worked in advertising as an art director. In 1958 he began to work on ad campaigns for foreign films aimed at American audiences. During the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s he was a art director focusing on the design and illustration of movie posters in Hollywood. The one-sheet poster for Star Wars (1977) is among his notable work. Since the late 1990s he has worked extensively as a storyboard artist.

Waldemar Swierzy

Waldemar Swierzy (1931 - 2013) was a Polish Artist. 'He employed unusual concepts with a variety of techniques, frequently mirroring Polish social history from 1950s through 1980s, with a myriad of styles: folk art from the 50s, pop art from the 60s, portraits from the 70s, and TV images from the 80s In addition, his Jazz Greats series of famous American jazz personalities became so well known that he reissued them in his later years as signed lithographs.'
